Contemplating a MAJOR LIFE CHANGE

We moved to CO from the Chicago burbs too, back in 1995. Wanted to get away from the HIGH crime rate, stupid firearms restrictions ,HIGH humidity, damn HIGH cost of living, crowded streets etc., etc., etc.... We found Trinidad to be a really a nice, slow paced little burg so that's where we decided to retire to. Back then, it was still very common to see many folks in this town still wearing cowboy hats, rifles in the back window rack of pick ups and even an occasional horse rider right in town. Back then, we'd meet folks on the sidewalk in town and they greet us with a "Hi, how yawl doing"... None of that anymore. But, it's still a hell of a lot better than being back in Naperville, IL.
I feel that the entire State of Illinois is a pile of .......

+1 on that worthless state. I remember the illegals taking over Aurora, IL back in the mid 80's. Little did I believe back then that it could go nation wide. I grew up in Nebraska and took a job out of college in Naperville working for Bell Labs. I loved the job, hated the place. Left and moved here in 86 in the middle of the big oil bust. The state was actually shrinking then. Prices were low and we were able to afford owning a house. I just loved Colorado back then and was so happy to start a family here. Today, I live in a small island of conservatives in western Arvada but it's changing too. Jeffco used to be solidly red but no more. Colorado is being Californicated. I'm in the same boat as KestrelBike, my wife of 34 years isn't a gun nut and is not exactly happy about moving out of state when my son goes off to college. If we leave, he'll be stuck with out-of-state tuition. We should just declare him an illegal alien. Sigh.

My limited time in Boise was pretty boring. There was lots of stuff outside of town for the outdoor oriented. Not much in the way of food options and local micro brews. The terrain reminds me of WY. This was back in '95, so things could have changed.

There is still a Mormon presence in the southern half of the state. The land prices and lack of crowds is definitely a plus. Sounds like the Kali infestation is everywhere.

If a well stocked town doesn't blow your dress up, this might be a good area.

I am on the same page and have plans to move out of state as well. This isn't the same state I grew up in,it's almost to the point that its embarrassing to say I'm from colorado. Idaho is beautiful and the people are very friendly and almost no traffic. I have a lot of family around the Idaho falls area and its a outdoorsman paridise. We are defiantly looking in the area of western Wyoming (north of I-80) SE Idaho or central utah. I travel a lot with work, drove a pick up 57000 + miles last year and as long as I'm in the areas I listed I can live anywhere and still keep my same job. I can't see this state getting better any time soon and most of the people I talk to that are like minded have asperations if not plans to leave this state. I'm 11 months and counting down....

How do Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana compare? Politics? economy? climate?

I lived in Livingston, MT for a short time and I can tell you, Montana is getting infested at a faster rate than CO, but thankfully it's in smaller pockets as there isn't any real big cities in the state. But yes it is getting nearly as bad as CO and it's all West coast liberals from CA, OR, and WA metropolis type areas. Bozeman, Helena, and Missoula are the targeted areas for the libtard invasion, ie all the best areas to live of course and they are all getting very expensive to live in (real estate wise)

UT is very much like ID, Very conservative, outdoorsman's paradise, ect.

WY is much the same with the exception of the Jackson area which is overrun with rich libtards. There's also a very contentious good ole boy network in the conservative side of things and they have a ton of back room dealing to screw over the little guy. But overall seems to be really good.

As for me, if I can ever pull it off, I'm shooting for ID too. It's been a dream of mine for a long time, but I will have to completely change my profession or at least the company in order to do it and it's not going to be easy to pull off at this point in my life. I've also considered just selling EVERYTHING but a few of my guns, my truck and trailer and some personal possessions to get 100% debt free and have a few bucks in my pocket, and just bailing and see what I can find up there.

All are conservative, last I heard Wyoming had negative unemployment. Winters can suck in all of the above but I've never run into traffic in any of those states like we have here. Also generally speaking more friendly people except Gillette wy....

My aunt and uncle are up in Orofino. They moved up from New Mexico. 10 acres. Built a cabin on it and they haven't looked back. Their one and only complaint is the lack of sunshine in the summer. It is constantly over-cast there like it is in the midwest.

Also, my aunt is a nurse there as well. She does the traveling nurse gig out of state for a few months out of the year. I'm not sure if it is because pay there is low or because she just wants to earn more. I can ask her.

I moved here in 2000 from St Louis. Did it for the outdoors and to get away from the insane crime. Now I'm trying to get to Texas. Mostly because I know no Californian will ever want to live there. Hell, even going back to St Louis sounds good to me these days.
