Help me understand the Organizations

There are a lot of groups out there to join

NRA - Member
NRA/ILA - Investigating on Donating http://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-laws/colorado.aspx

There are other groups that seem good to belong to, but joining all can get kind of pricy. Help me undertsand the groups below, the ones I missed and why they are good to belong to. I would like to understand why one would be better than the other

All are probably good groups. Being new to the groups and NRA and owning a 9mm and AR-15, wanting to know which are the best to follow. Any I am missing that are worth looking into?

Course then there are the Clubs (Looking at Centennial Gun Club) and ranges memberships etc.

CSSA: I think they're dormant. I've been a member but haven't heard from them in a while.

RMGO: Controversial. I'm a former member and not a fan at all, mostly due to their spokesman. He's a member here and I don't want to raise the ire of our hosts by being too expressive. NAGR is the same guy. If NAGR is relevant on the national level, I've not heard of it.

SAF: IMHO they're a big deal. SAF was a major player in a few very big RKBA court cases (They took on Heller before NRA jumped on the bandwagon, for instance) and IMHO do more to advance RKBA through the courts than anybody else.

CMP: Not a political organization at all. Originally, they were created as part of the Dep't of Defense to advance marksmanship training among civilians, but they're more or less independent now. They sell surplus M-1 Garand rifles and a few other things and promote a few shooting matches, mostly under NRA High-Power rules. Them, I AM a fan of. They gave me a screaming deal on a 1930's-era assault rifle, after all.

I'm no authority on which is better than the other, but the NRA sure seems to be hated and demonized by the gun grabbers more than anyone else by a longshot. That tells me something.

Based on this alone, and I've been a member of the NRA for a few years now, is a compelling reason to join. They have clout, they have the lobby- for better or worse a large majority- cornered, and they have a legal action team second to none in defense of our rights. Granted, they do a great job on the national front, but locally, as much as people don't like them, RMGO get's stuff done here. I can't speak for the other orgs, but NRA and RMGO, despite their minor, excusable faults, are OK in my book.

Whether you like them or don't, the NRA is the only one that gets the anti-gun Left to squeal like a pig. That alone is worth the price of membership to me.

Although I'm a member of NRA/SAF/NAGR/GOA/RMGO, going forward I'll likely pool the annual dues all into one and give it to the NRA. Some of the others are just too divisive in their attempts to drain my wallet. Many years ago I joined the NRA and told them by phone on Day 1 that I didn't want the incessant calls for cash or junk mail I'd heard about. I've not gotten one call or any junk mail from them and I've been a member for a long while now.

Thanks - these, and all the responces very helpful. The draining the wallet is not something I want to do. I would rather put my $$ where they will be the most useful

I'll do a little bit more research on SAF and RMGO.
