Default Help me Critique my Draw and Reload for production.

After Yesterday's IPSC match in Pueblo. I felt like I did horriable through 90% of the match, turns out it wasn't as bad as I thought placing 10 over 22 production shooters. But yesterday alot of the stages I ran through didn't go exactly like I had it plan.

Only reason Stage 2 Turn out so good was because it was the only stage that I completely followed my plan through out the entire shooting processes. (and probably saved my Butt on stage points overall)

Stages 1, 3, 4, and 6 I flopped my reload. Either by dropping the reload mag on the ground (stage 4). or being caught with no rounds in the chamber as I pulled the trigger (stage 1, 3, and 6). The only "perfect" reload I had was during the 1st part of the classifier, which i manage some how to release the mag at eye/target level and reload and kept both front sight and target in my vision. The only bugger I had on that one was I forgot to chamber a round as I went into the Strong hand box, so it was ready draw, click...

Also, I can use alot of work on my draw, which probably contrubuted in some slow times in stages 3, 4, 5, 6. I gone ahead and made a Youtube video of me doing draws and reloads, any advice you could give will only make me better .

you look like you have the basic idea...just need to smooth things out a bit.
if you can draw and shoot an A in about 1.2 to 1.5. you're good to go..in an average match. there are only 6 of those. so be smooth, make the hit..and move on.
time on stages is made up on movement, transition..all the time you are not shooting. and production is about points. Cs and Ds are BAD...

    goals I would look for.
    A. 1.5 second draws at 10yards for an A at any type of target, full, partial, steel, etc.
    B. 2.0 second reload....shoot, reload shoot. two A's
    C. 4.0 second bill drill....Draw shoot six at target 10 yards all As. too easy shorten the time by .5 second.
    D. 3 targets, two shots each, all A's, 10 yards, 4 seconds. too easy..shorten by a second.
    E. 3 targets, two shots each, reload, two shots each, all A's, 10 yards, 8 seconds. same thing.

catch up with ya at a match..

First lets start with your stance. You want your feet shoulder width apart, your right leg slightly back of your front leg your knees slightly bent. Your standing too upright with your legs parallel.

For the draw on the buzzer both hands should move together, your strong hand getting to the gun as fast as possible with a slight pause as you get a good grip on the gun. At this same time your weak hand should be hitting at about your belly button, as you draw the gun out of the holster it should come up to your midsection and then your weakhand meets the gun, then push out and up to eye level. Youre weakhand is meeting the gun too far from your body and isn't moving towards your midsection.

Finally all this should be accomplished with as little extraneous movement as possible, all that needs to move is your hands and arms. You are moving your head around as you draw, which is slowing you down. Ideally your head shouldn't move at all from the time the buzzer goes until you break the shot.

The best way to practice all of this is to break the draw into it's component parts and practice them deliberately and slowly. Once you get better at them and can put them together in slow motion try it again in full speed.

So practice that for a bit and then we'll talk reloads.

Jeez..I was going go baby steps..until we caught him at the range.

anyway..as you watch your video..you should notice when you draw..your whole body is moving and bouncing..as RTR said..the only thing moving should be your arms..your legs, your body, your shoulders and your head ideally should be set.

a more solid stance as suggested..strong foot back and legs spread, shoulder wide, knees bent..weight on balls of feet.

there are some good videos on basic techniques by Todd Jarrett..let me see if I can find them

Remember. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

Right now you are herky jerky.

Here is a good video of Travis Tomasie doing reloads for shooting gallery. not the open gun reload..but a good technique video.
fun part..shoot popper, reload, shoot popper again before its down.

Here is a video of KC showing some steel shooting..but if you watch his draw..there is no extraneous movement..just hands to the gun and out.
