I watched TV and got paid. Got multiple recruiter calls. Watched some more TV... Got paid for taking a recruiter call. Are you sure you want to be a slave?

Congrats on a good ASVAB score, good on you for wanting to serve and WE NEED GOOD folks applying/in the .mil keeping it sane. .
My knowledge is dated but I assume you have your degree if you're preparing an OCS package. Given you have an entrance w/ a notable ASVAB score and want to serve, "hope isn't a plan" and I HIGHLY recommend you also talk to USAF, USN and Marine recruiters as well and not limit your options at this point... As I recall, there are further service-specific test batteries you'll have to take.
Funding and force management is a bit iffy at this point and I'd expect the application/acceptance for non-Academy/non-ROTC slots is highly competitive and "needs of the service" based; REGARDLESS, all services need to fill gaps and will "hire/recruit" and flex as required.
Best wishes and thanks!
I don't usually do personal attacks here and try to refrain from too much profanity... Ginsue, I apologize.
Ashton, what the fuck is up with you? Every time I see some rediculous, retarded post and I look over to see who posted it I see your name every fucking time. From the posts we've seen out of you, all I can gather is that you're a cocky, in some cases hypocritical, prick that feels the need to one up everybody and everything in some way. I don't know if you've got daddy issues or are still self conscious about your training bra but seriously, get the fuck over yourself.
Specifically with this post... don't try and come off as being better than others in some way because they had the balls to serve our country and you don't. Fucking pathetic.

Congratulations on your pending military service. And thanks!

Don't wanna get shot by the police?
"Stop Resisting Arrest!"
Congratulations
Keep with OCS! As someone with high ASVAB scores and an above average IQ, enlisted Infantry was no fun for me. Sure, I got to roll around in the dirt and shoot stuff, which is why I joined that MOS. However, I never enjoyed being bossed around by people with room-temp IQs. I'm not a genius by far. I'm just saying...
Anyway, congrats! Always good to see people sign up.
Congrats Budda! Just remember- Ft. Carson is the most sought after post for all officers- you're not likely to get it... Do all you can to avoid Ft. Drum! Wish you the best of luck, and if you get INF don't be that 2LT that thinks he's hot shit just because he's got an O before his grade instead of an E...
Amen! I read his post and thought there is no way in hell he'd say that to any of our faces (us vets on here- especially those Devil Dogs) IRL... Ashton, no. Shit no, man! I believe you get your ass kicked for saying stuff like that.

I hear they are issuing pink undies now? Good luck hahaha.
Stay away from tanks, what happens in the tank stays in the tank!
Lots of good advice above. I took the ASVAB back in the early 90s. That's a good score. I don't know how the Army works, but the AF has a separate test officer candidates have to take. It's called the AFOQT. Do your homework. Recruiters are not to be trusted. Enough vets will tell you that. I was enlisted for 16 years first and commissioned later via Officer Training School. I'll tell you that going straight to OCS is the toughest and most competitive way to go and it's like sucking knowledge through a fire hose where as ROTC and the service academies spread it out over four years. Another thing I'll tell you is that OCS is the last method of officer ascension when it comes to numbers. Most of the numbers come from the academies, then ROTC and lastly, OCS/OTS. That means that OCS/OTS are the first slots on the chopping blocks when there's a RIF (reduction in forces-which is happening now). So yeah, OCS is the most competitive route. I did a quick search and came up with this: http://www.johntreed.com/USMAvsOCSROTCshrunk.html It's an interesting read, perhaps a little dated, but interesting none the less. You scored well, you should really think about a more technical job as someone mentioned above. I've got nothing against anyone who chooses to serve in the infantry or any other in-the-mud-and-muck in-harms-way kind of job. Someone has to do it and it takes great courage to do so. The danger factor is far greater and the quality of life much lower. If that's what you want then go for it. I will tell you that after a year or two, you may have regrets you're not in a safer job with after the service training and experience that transfers well to the civilian sector. That and if you're a smart person, you'll hate being told what to do by somebody with half a brain and less IQ that can't make a decision worth a shit to save their lives, never mind those they command or manage. When I enlisted, it was just after Desert Storm and I badly wanted to be a combat Marine. My uncle, a 3-tour self-proclaimed jarhead, threatened to drive up from TX and "beat the stupid out of me" if I joined the Corps. The best advice I got when looking at the prospective services was to talk to people who'd served a few years and have each of the recruiters take me to a base and compare the facilities, chow, and barracks, then look at the jobs they were offering me. It was a no-brainer from there and I never looked back. I have friends in all 5 services (yes, I include the coasties) and each has its pros and cons but I'll tell ya I have a lot of friends in other services who have on more than one occasion when not surrounded by their fellow service members uttered the words, "damn, you guys have it good. I should have joined the Air Force." The battlespace is changing. We kill more bad guys with RPAs from 10k feet than any other method. Do your homework and make a good decision with your brain, not just your heart. Just my .02. Free advice.
I remember the duck walk in underwear too.It was so long ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday.
"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day."
Hmm someone asking someone if they're ready to make a true life decision committing to something for years with no out and not sugar coating what it really is. Isn't that called thinking? So me asking if he really wants to be a slave is a bad thing? With Obama weeding out certain personalities who wouldn't perform certain tasks? "Would you fire on American citizens if given orders?" asking this person if he is ready to commit to that lifestyle is a bad thing?
Lets not get things wrong here. I appreciate the military and those who serve, have served, or will serve. They allow me to live my life at home. I understand freedom isn't free.
Also, I'm guessing that your main problems are with the word slave. Well lets look at this a little bit.
slave
/slāv/
Noun
A person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.
Technically, when you sign up for the military you become the property of the US government, and when issued orders you are "duty bound" to execute the orders. If you don't execute the orders (what someone else told you to do) then you can goto military prison. So basically, "you better do what I tell you boy or you're gonna get a lashin'!"
Now lets move on to why there is a draft, and the word conscription.
con·scrip·tion
/kənˈskripSHən/
Noun
Compulsory enlistment for state service, typically into the military.
Now lets look at the word compulsory... Enforced by or resulting from compulsion; employing force or constraint; compulsory.
Sorry for having such a white and black view of it. But signing up for something for years of your life and not asking the question in the actual terms of what it is, is well... Stupid. It's the reason you either RE ENLIST or DON'T ENLIST. Showing him that there are other ways to live thanks to the military?
For those of you that openly flamed me for asking this question. I ask you. Would you re enlist in this current political climate? Would you fire on AMERICAN civilians? You know. Every other person who posts regularly on this board. Because guess what. If you won't Obama will find someone else who will.
