Anyone ever heard of this gunsmith? He states he is the gunsmith for the colorado gun collectors association. I was thinking about having some ar work done and was wondering what experience people have had with him.
    Thanks

My COLT 6920 LE carbine has this swivel attached to the barrel with some sort of expansion pins. It looks like a piece of wrapped up metal that expands or unravels when placed and I cannot get the damn thing off. I am putting a VLTOR (CASV-EL) handguard on that will essentially make it a free float barrel set up. This swivel needs to be removed prior to the handguard placement. I tried driving the pins out with a hammer and tap but I am afraid to get after it too much for fear of damaging something. I also want the stock replaced with the magpul CTR stock.
I am not that good with this kind of stuff and am not sure I using the right tools for the job so I wanted a gunsmith to do it.
This guy is also in Parker (which is close to where I live )so I was wondering if anyone had worked with him.

John is a good guy. I've had him do work a few different times. A little expensive, but what isn't these days?

roll pins - they come out with a roll pin punch.

I'm set up to do it, but I'm in the springs, which might be further than you want to drive.

CTR stock make sure you get the right one-mil-spec or commercial. The lever on the stock is pulled down instead of pulled up and slides right off the tube, same thing to put on your new one.

    1. Other people who have installed the CASV-EL have said they did not need to remove the swivel, but I assume if you dont it will resonate and de-freefloat the setup.

    2. I got mine out just last week...took a dremel to the side that was expanded until it was cut down from the swivel, and then took a 1/8" punch and knocked it out...the FSB could use some re-blueing, but its otherwise fine.
