I'm on my second coffee maker in 21 years. Picked up a Cuisanart from Costco a few years ago. I make my coffee by the pot. For what it costs me in Boyer's beans and filters, I figure I'm way ahead of the game for my coffee budget.

Those cuisinart ones are great and will last forever.
Single cup coffee makers like a Keurig are cost effective if you only drink 1 cup of coffee a day (especially if you buy the cups from a wholesale place like Costco or use your own grounds... gets it down to about $.40 per cup or less). If you drink more than one or two 8oz cups a day, you should probably just brew a traditional pot of coffee. If you like good coffee, buy a french press and learn to use it.

I have a couple of french presses. Tastes more like an Americano...but cleaning those things is a pain. Also requires a coarser grind.
With the drip maker, you just have to wipe it out once every couple of months whether it needs it or not. Just dump the filter with grounds and rinse. The one we have also has a timer to automatically brew in the morning and an adjustable thermostat to keep the coffee hot for hours.
We fill our travel mugs and put the rest in a thermos. Keeps us in excellent coffee through the day. The cost probably averages to less than $.50/pot.

Mine is a piece of crap also. Cannot keep the water tank without it leaking all over the damn place.
