MAUSER TO LEAD ANTI GUN VIOLENCE ACTION TUESDAY

I'm writing to friends who live here in Jefferson County to make you aware of a great grassroots opportunity to speak out about the issue of gun violence. I'm inviting you to attend a County Commissioners meeting this coming Tuesday at 8:00 in Golden to let your voices be heard.
Jeffco County Commissioner Don Rosier (R) is introducing a resolution that "strongly urges" Congress and the Colorado legislature not to "entertain consideration of any new legislation that would infringe on the constitutionally protected rights under the Second Amendment through any means, including restrictions on lawful firearms and accessories; or on possession, use, sale or transfer of legitimately owned firearms."
In other words, like the NRA, he wants no new gun laws. Period. Lest there is any doubt about Mr. Rosier's beliefs, the resolution also cites the danger of a tyranny that will dominate a disarmed population and expresses that paranoid warning against United Nations treaties that would infringe on our Second Amendment rights--as if the U.N. can somehow do so. I could go on and on.
A similar resolution passed in El Paso County (Colorado Springs). We cannot let it happen here. We have GOT to speak up in opposition. Many in this country are calling for a conversation about gun laws. Don't we owe it to the many victims of these recent shootings to have one?!? We shouldn't allow gun activists to shut down the conversation before it even beguns in earnest. Even if you don't fully agree with me on the need for stronger gun laws, surely you'd agree we need to talk, not stifle the conversation.
This awful resolution is on the agenda for this coming Tuesday's County Commissioners meeting at the "Taj Majal" in Golden, on the first floor at 8:00 a.m. As of yesterday there were only two items on the agenda--their consent agenda (which should go quickly) and the resolution. I plan to be there and will ask to speak. I'm not asking you to speak up, only to SHOW up! I'd like to make a show of force of reasonable Jeffco residents who oppose this resolution, and will ask people to stand up at some point in a show of support. If you're able to get away, I'd really appreciate you being there. I'm sure Rosier will have some pro gun supporters there, so we need to outnumber them!
One group in Golden is likely to bring a number of people. Likewise, if you know of friends who might be interested in this event, please share this with them. However, be careful--please don't broadcast this news broadly--we don't want to inform opponents by accident and do something that stirs up gun activists and increases their numbers. A PR person will inform the media of the event but not well in advance--for the same reason.
I have no reason to think the resolution won't be on the agenda, but if something happens that changes the event (e.g., Rosier postpones the resolution after hearing that we'll be there in numbers), or if we need to inform you of anything else, I'll send you all an email Monday evening and ask that you pass it along to anyone you informed of the event.
I really think grassroots pressure can make a difference here.

I don't know how to respond to this, except to send my response to you. In your Golden Newsletter today Tom Mauser made the follow ludicrous statement:

While I sympathize with Mr. Mauser and his loss, this is not how things are done in a democratic society. You don't hide information so that someone with an opposing view won't be informed. Luckily, this article did inform this gun owner and I will try to be there to support this resolution. I wish that our society didn't have crazy people who abuse their rights and harm others, but limiting the rights of law-abiding citizens will do nothing to stop the crazies. Even Joe Biden has now conceded this. We need to move the focus away from the guns and try to find away to detect the potential for violent behavior in individuals before it occurs. Sadly, there will probably always be people who will find a way to do harm to others, but limiting my right to protect my home and family will only lead to more innocent people being harmed. I support Commissioner Rosier's resolution and I hope it passes. Thank you for "broadcasting this news broadly". I would not have know about this had I not read it in your newsletter. Maybe Mr. Mauser should have requested that you poll your readership on this issue to make sure you weren't broadcasting this news to the "opposition." I will sure try to be there on Tuesday to add to the increase in numbers of "gun activists". (A questionable and biased misnomer in my opinion. I'm not a "gun activist" - just a concerned gun owner who will stand to defend my right to protect myself and my family.)

A wife beater and some cut offs........I mean no matter what you wear that is how you will be remembered, we are just a bunch of hicks clinging on to our guns right? I wish I could make it but i have a job and will be at work, as do most of us I assume.

You know how the liberal media seeks out the most irresponsible looking mouth-breathers for their sound/video bites thus insinuating these few individuals as typical of those supporting our side of the cause. We don't need this image, we have to appear as responsible as possible.

I'm not suggesting jackets and ties (I won't be wearing one)...just something where your mother wouldn't have to deny recognition.
