Cleaning your media

I did a search and did not see anything posted on this, so here it is.

I typically use corn cob media but will be switching to walnut as soon as the corn cob runs out. I watched a video on YouTube recently starring Jerry Miculek where he talks about cleaning brass for reloading. One thing I caught was how he washes his corn cob media. I found that to be interesting since once my corn cob media has run it's course...I just toss it and start with new. My question, has anyone else gone down this road or know any "tricks of the trade" if you will in regards to cleaning the media?

I am switching to walnut simply because you can buy it cheaper at pet stores as reptile bedding versus buying at through vendors as actual "media".

I saw on another forum, a shooter posted about using an old panty hose, placing your dirty media in it and then washing it that way. I'm going to give that a try just for shits & grins to see how well it actually works. I'll put up some pictures when I get a chance (or possibly a video).

I'm not trying to be a cheap-skate, but like to know how to make products go the distance for saving $$$. If something is cheap, easy, and it works (kind of like AirbornePathogen )....then I'm all in.

Cleaning media? Is that sort of like separating out the two plies of the toilet paper to make it last longer?

Media is relatively cheap. Toss it and get new stuff.

Move to stainless steel pins and don't look back.

I use a 50/50 mix of corn cob and walnut, toss in a used dryer sheet to keep the dust down and a capfull of NuFinish and your brass comes out nice and shiny.

Like Ray said, media is cheap, toss and replace as needed.

I've been adding used drier sheets with every tumble for more than 6 years. I quarter them so they don't ball up and place them in the media. Use 1 sheet for small batches or 2 for bigger ones. Most of the crap get caught in the sheets and they're easily removed after tumbling. Your media will last more than twice as long and it doesn't cost you anything.

I also use drier sheets. I usually throw three or four of them in each batch.
