this is the "Pack" mentality. you see it large groups of people like gang members etc. They have no idea what they are shooting at, no idea where they are hitting, they dont care. Everyone wants to be a big man and shoot some rounds. just lite the fucker up.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Why all the vehicles packed in like, well, sardines! I understand possibly some cover with all that, but?
2. What if they actually had to get the hell out of there? All cars/trucks facing the same direction with everyone piled in there. If Dorner walked out shooting, they would all run to open cover most likely behind all the vehicles, and or couldn't get into a vehicle to retreat.

Here's an AP story that notes "Dorner was equipped with an arsenal of weapons, including assault rifles with flash suppressors that masked the sound of gunfire and the location it was coming from."
