What we need is the big boys to do it... Colt, Springfield, Ruger, etc.

I wonder how long it will be before there is a regulation or federal law requiring FFLs to sell to government agencies to maintain the license?

Yep. And they'll create any number of other 'hoops' through which the FFL must jump in order to be "licensed and registered" and "legal-beagle"!
