    Default Mandated gun insurance?

So forcing gun owners to have "gun insurance" would help? As far as I know homeowner liability insurance does not cover intentional or criminal acts.
And why would you be responsible for a heinous act perpetrated by someone who breaks into your domicile and steals your property?
Auto insurance does not cover criminal acts when your vehicle is stolen and used in a crime.
Should you have to have "alcohol insurance" in case a teenager breaks into your home and drinks it dry?
There are many dangerous objects you can own that you don't need to insured.
Why don't we just force everyone to get health insurance even if you are healthy, young, and can't afford it....oh wait.
Insurance is not meant to cover for the acts of criminals. They are supposed to be punished and you are not supposed to be able to buy your way out of punitive damages.

Despite what most people understand, liability insurance is to protect the policy holder, more than it is to protect the person injured, or property damaged by whatever negligent act. Same thing for gun insurance. Get shot by a guy who had gun insurance? GREAT! But your still dead. Oh well, if it is anything like the state minimum for auto liability insurance, your family will get a big check for $15,000! Whoa, don't spend it all at once.

Auto liability minimum in California is only $5,000.

The whole point behind liability insurance for gun owners, like everything else the anti-gun folks are talking about, has nothing to do with protecting people.

It is to raise the price of being a gun owner high enough that most folks won't bother. Criminals ain't gonna buy the insurance before they rob the liquor store, and criminal acts are the vast majority of the reason people get shot. It's just like the whole ban saturday night special thing from way back. What did that do? Ensure that poor people can't protect themselves. You can pretty much say that the gun banners are still the racists they've always been.

Its also another way of knowing who has guns and probably what type as well as where you live etc etc. The feds want a difinative list of who has guns and what type of guns as well I am sure. They can make all of the mandates they want, I have no intentions of getting gun insurance.

The Feds don't care who has insurance. The only way anyone knows if you don't have auto insurance, is if you get into a wreck or get pulled over and can't prove it. A Federal list of gun related insurance policies is the very last thing I would worry about.

That's a decent point. Auto insurance sure isn't the same as health "insurance."

This is an interesting point you bring up though. There are a ton of things that the IRS is not equipped to investigate without a specific audit that people get away with. I wonder what specific steps will be included into procedure to enforce this insurance law.

The answer though, is that health "insurance" will be a requirement for everyone, and gun insurance, just like auto insurance, will only apply to people who own guns. Currently, there is no connection between your gun ownership, nor your auto ownership, so it is invisible to Federal and State tax radar.

Don't put anything past these power hungry douchebags. Example: For the last few years, in TX, they record your insurance during vehicle inspection. Insurance companies are required to report to the state if your car is covered. Police can tell by running the plate if the vehicle is insured (and plate scanners are getting quick these days.)
