Kahr PM9 Slide Work After Putting A New Slide On An Old Frame

Basically, I have an old PM9 (SN: VB5XXX) and I had some barrel peening problems, evident in many of the VA and VB series PM9s. I sent it in for customer service. Their customer service was excellent and quick. They gave me a new slide, barrel, and recoil spring. The gun functioned fine, but if I tried to rack the slide a certain way, it would not budge. This was obviously unacceptable for a CCW gun, so I decided to fix it myself.

The problem: The metal rails in my early frame don't extend far enough to stay in the grooves at the front end of the slide. If I tried to rack the gun without pushing down on the top of the slide near the front, the metal rails in the frame would not fall into the slide grooves and the slide would not move rearward.

My solution: Carefully use a dremmel tool to open up the entrance to the slide grooves, so that the frame rails would have an easier time lining up perfectly every time.

Note: Upon taking these pictures, I noticed that my work appears to be very sloppy. ALWAYS be careful when using a dremel on any of your firearms! Nonetheless, the function of the gun is improved and the problem is completely resolved. Also, my gun appears to be terribly dirty. This is because when I got the new slide and barrel, I gave them a generous coating of froglube. I did not clean off the dirty froglube and re-apply yet, so you can still see lots of dirtyness all up in there.

I guess I should have been more clear: the issue only occurred when I grabbed the back of the slide with my left hand between my thumb and left trigger finger's 2nd knuckle and pulled the slide back to rack it. I don't normally rack the slide like this, but I want to minimize the chances of a malfunction, should I ever need to use it for defense. Clear as mud? lol
