My former teacher was fired for his beliefs on gay marriage

While I'm not gay I have no problem with two people of the same sex getting married. I find it quite shameful that my former teacher was let go by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for his beliefs.

Best teacher I ever had and I certainly don't agree with a lot of his political standings but I've gotta give him my support on this.

A high school administrator was fired today for expressing his support for same sex marriage.


The Archdiocese of Cincinnati confirms that Purcell Marian Assistant Principal Michael Moroski was dismissed today.


Moroski was placed on leave last week after sharing his views on his personal blog.


Moroski says the school offered to keep him on until June if he would sign papers taking back his earlier statements. He refused.

Take it down or give up your job-that was the decision facing Purcell Marian assistant principal Mike Moroski after comments he made on his personal website in support of gay marriage. It drew the attention of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.


Local 12 reporter Adam Clements spoke with students, who say they support Moroski 100% and plan on fighting to save his job.


It started with a blog entry on the personal website of Mike Moroski, one in which he stated he supported gay marriage. The Catholic Archdiosese of Cincinnati told him to take it down and Moroski refused. Now with his job hanging in the balance, his students are showing that they've got his back. Iain Applebee, a Purcell Marian student, says "He connects with people. He's more than just an administrator."


Moroski was placed on administrative leave last week and already the student body is feeling the effects. "Now that he's gone, it's just like there's a giant black hole where he once was."


Iain Applebee is one of many students helping to organize a number of protests this week in support of Moroski. He says punishing the assistant principal for expressing his own personal beliefs on his own personal website is an injustice. "I was kind of mad, but it seemed like the very thing the Catholic Church would do. So I was not surprised, but I was shocked that it would happen to him."


The comments in question are still posted to the site. Moroski says "I unabashedly believe that gay people should be allowed to marry.. ethically.. morally.. and legally. I believe this."


Applebee believes the vast majority of students will stand behind Moroski. He says "It's only right to be there for someone who's always been there for so many. We will not give in..we're going to make ourselves heard..and we're not going to forget."


And right now.. the Archdiosease is not releasing any comment on the issue. So far, no official permanent action has been taken regarding the job status of Mike Moroski but it does figure to be an interesting week at Purcell.. with a number of student organized protests planned.


Regardless of what happens with Moroski's job... this more than likely won't be the last time we hear from him. Another recent entry on his website indicates he plans on running for Cincinnati City Council in 2017.
