In case anyone else misunderstoood what I meant to convey, and in the case that I expressed myself poorly, I would like to explain this a little bit further. I don't doubt that Melvin will call me a "fuckin libturd" every opportunity he gets, despite the fact that he does not know me. That's not my point.

In the original post, bogman2121 stated that despite political differences, this was the best teacher he ever had. I, too, have had teachers that have had a profound impact on my life. In both instances, specific teachers were able to affect us as we were growing up- and they didn't use their political and/or religious beliefs to "infect" us, unlike Ward Churchill. There is a happy medium where there are teachers that believe differently than other people, and yet recognize that political leanings are separate from their job. Students that age (high school) are also able to determine their own politcial leanings, which are separate from instructors. What I meant from my so-called "liberal drivel" was that he sounds like he had an effect on bogman2121, which means he no doubt was an excellent teacher. There is a deficit of truly good teachers in this country; at the time I had hoped that he would be snapped up by another school (after he learned from this firing) so that more students could benefit from his non-political teachings. That was my meaning, and I apologize for expecting a text-based environment to be able to convey my tone and expecting you to understand what was going around in my brain.

He was a great teacher. He never once mentioned his political beliefs in school and all he ever wanted us to do was think for ourselves, form an opinion, and be able to defend that opinion in a respectful and knowledgeable way no matter what we believed in.

Far too few teachers care enough to act like that and far too many will only want you to believe what they themselves believe. I feel bad for Mike, I can see why he was let go but that doesn't mean I agree with it. Of all the issues the church has, a great teacher not towing the line is the least of them and they alienated a lot of people in Cincinnati because of this.

Just an FYI - if you go to "settings", there's a button on the lefthand side for "edit ignore list". Adding a user to the ignore list automatically blocks PMs from them, and distills their endless vapid posts to a polite "message not shown because you are ignoring this user" or something to that effect. I've found it useful shortly after Melvin joined the site. Differing opinions, skilled arguers, smartass are all fine. But some folks are just more of a repetitive irritation. PSA over. :-)

Don't be mad Grey. I'm not hating on you . I went to HS and a bit of College in the DC area, some of which was spent around a bunch of senator's kids who happened to be snotty little shits that were VERY left in the their beliefs. There were also quite a few teachers at those schools that tried to impart their way of thinking on their students. I didn't appreciate that. Over the years, it's become apparent that at higher levels of learning, teachers are hired/fired based on their political leanings and a majority of professors seem to be liberals for some reason. I find that unbalanced and upsetting. One of my neighbors whom I drink and grill animals with is married to a teacher and she told me most of her coworkers are liberals who voted for Obama, support his policies, and infuse their lessons with bias. Those kids turn 18 and as misinformed voters elect poor leaders. For the record, I'm not a homophobe. I have lots of friends who happen to be gay and it's never been an issue. I don't know this teacher but the fact that someone would say they were influential obviously says something about their ability as an educator and/or mentor.

I'm not mad at all, USAFGM. I was annoyed briefly until I remembered that I've lived my entire life very happily without certain people in it. The ignore feature helped me to put that into effect again.

It took us 15 years to reach escape velocity from the DC area- I understand your meaning completely of the incessant barrage of liberal viewpoint; I can only imagine how discouraging it would be to be a student in a situation where the teachers abused their authority. I know the incessant haranguing if I didn't agree with people helped to hone my once-pleasant demeanor into something less so. I don't understand the mentality of the East Coasters and their political views.

Bogman2121, I certainly see your point. They're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Best teacher I ever had and I certainly don't agree with a lot of his political standings but I've gotta give him my support on this.
