NON GMO and non hybrid seeds

anyone know of a good source for these types of seeds. its seems that monsanto has modified seeds so that the seeds are only good for one planting in that seed the seeds in the fruit/vegies grown won't grow fruit when replanted. Good for monsanto's bottom line but not so good for the consumer. If my data is wrong, please update me.

Nick's Garden Center in Aurora 2001 S. Chambers Rd has a nice selection of heirloom seeds. I picked up a bunch a few weeks ago

First of all, Monsanto didn't come up with hybrids (that's what causes the 2nd generation to not breed true). Some RR stuff will grow just fine second generation, canola, soybeans...but it's against the user contract.

Albert Lea seeds in Minnesota has some non-hybrid stuff if you are looking for corn, etc. As Tactical said, look for the key word "heirloom" and you can find plenty in Gurneys or any of the seed catalogs.

I buy all my Heirloom seeds from Burpee. They have tons of non-hybrid varieties of just about every type of fruit/veggie. Don't pay for the ridiculous price that so-called survival places charge for heirloom seeds. You shouldn't pay any more for heirloom seeds than hybrid seeds, there is nothing special about them that makes them cost more.

Do you guys know how to tell which types of seeds are "Orthodox" vs. "recaltricant", and where to pick them up? Doing a little research and it turns out that Orthodox seeds can be ultra-dried and maintain viability for a long time (decades), but haven't been able to find any good info on how to find/identify the Orthodox variety....
