Anyone using Blu Ray? What do you think? Are you using a dedicated player or a PS-3(like me)? Most importantly: What are your favorite movies on Blu-Ray? What would you like to see? Me: Favs ;300, Blackhawk Down, Tears of the Sun(the best Bruce Willis movie ever, IMHO). I would like to see: Saving Pvt. Ryan, Aliens(Special Edition, with the auto-guns), Cannonball Run. Ryan

Even though HD-DVD lost the duel, Blu-Ray really hasn't benefitted much and the players certainly haven't come down in cost.

I'm holding out. I believe the future will be downloadable movies on various forms of media, flash, dual-layer DVD, hard drive, etc. Why get locked into a media format that you have to pay royalties to use?

I'm holding out until the prices drop.. and I'm also not buying new DVD's unless it's something I HAVE to own.

I'd like a PS3 (80gig).. best of many worlds.. ps2, ps3, dvd, brdvd, cd, fotodiscs..etc.

No PS here just a good ol dedicated player. I try not to buy DVDs anymore and stick strickly to blu-ray. There some good placed online to buy used blu-ray discs which gets the cost down to something that's managable.

If you are going to use blu-ray the connection to the tv is important. You loose allot going Component in. I my opinion HDMI is the only was to go with blu-ray. The difference is night and day. I almost took the player back when I saw it on our tv. Then a friend convinced me to go HDMI and I've never looked back.

I doubt the Blu-ray conversion will be as enthusiastic as VHS to DVD was. This seems more driven by suppliers (Sony, Phillips, Toshiba, etc) then on the demand side.

Next year 42% of the households will no longer have TV reception. That's a lot of non-digital TVs still on rabbit ears. This doesn't count analog TVs on sat. or cable. I don't see a mad rush for digi. TVs and Blu-ray players.

Sure Blu-ray has better picture and sound but how much better? I would bet that this is short lived interim technology.

BluRay 2.0 is just around the corner, and none of the current dedicated BluRay players can convert to 2.0. The only one that will be able to upgrade to 2.0 is the Playstation3 via the Sony's Playstation network. Unless your tv can support 1080P or 1080I theres no reason to get a BluRay player. That being said best movies that I own thats worth blue ray so far are

Basicly any movie that has Huge battles going on, is were bluRay shines. Everything is very detailed. I would adviced againts movies that are none action flicks since not much rendering is needed in those movies, and you can get away with just DVD quality.

Good point. After Toshiba bailed I forgot about the 2.0 transition that left out the 1.x versions already sold.

I wasn't going to buy either one, but Walfart had a very good Toshiba HDDVD player for $99, and it came with 5 dvd's. So I bought it thinking if it fails, (HD) then I'll have a good upconverting dvd player at least. Now you can find some great deals on hd dvd's, and yes it's awesome at upconverting.

I'm holding out for the prices to come down on bluray, or I'll get a PS3.
