    Default College kid Republican

This is a follow up to my thread last weekend about how college kid don't even know why Pacific War started.
    http://www.ar-15.co/threads/87817-Co...hy-Pacific-War

I decided to find out what kind of people my random roommates are. Not to my surprises they are all weed smokers, Call of Shitty fanboys, and anti-gun.
But to my surprise is that one of the guys consider himself Conservative Republican. He say he is the Ronald Reagan type of conservatives, not a Tea Partyer. A Republican for a greater good. He believes that weapon of war don't belong in the hand of good citizen, he like to use Reagan's quote "Weapon like AK-47 don't serve purpose in defense or sport".

So I want to ask you boys here, what does Reagan really mean by that statement. Because as far as I know, Reagan go shot but never come out yelling "Ban Guns!"

And by the way, looks like conservatives have a bright future ahead.

As much as I admire Reagan he was not a champion of gun owners. Reagan signed the Mulford Act in 1967 so he's at least partially responsible for the difficulties of being a gun owner in California today. I don't buy for a minute that Reagan only supported the Brady Bill because he was senile. Reagan announced his support of the gun control act that would become the Brady Bill as early as 1991. That's over 3 years before he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

And don't forget...Reagan also signed the Firearm Owner's Protection Act in 1986. You know...the law that made select fire guns so expensive.

He did great things for this country but he did some terrible things to gun owners.

You can be republican and antigun. You can be democrat and progun. Just because a republican said guns are bad doesn't mean all republicans should think that way.

    This is true.
But that really wasn't the point. Reagan was a great president but he had his faults just like everyone. His stance on gun control was something a lot of conservatives don't like to "remember" about Reagan.
