Funny you should ask as I set up my safe this weekend.
I keep the safe in the bedroom which takes the place of my night stand. When I come home, I drop my keys and wallet in a bowl and then unlock the safe. I keep my PDW AR-15 and HD shotgun in the front rows. When I leave for the day, I grab my stuff and lock the safe.
I keep a Ruger LCP hidden elsewhere in the house and generally grab that when I'm going to walk the dog quick around the neighborhood but it also gives me a quick access if someone tries to push through the front door and getting the bedroom isn't the best option. (I mention pushing through the front door because an armed intruder did that two blocks from my house a few weeks ago and I thought I lived in a 'good' neighborhood.)

I like the safe in the bedroom as I feel that most home intrusions happen while people are away at work or in the middle of night (but obviously I have to rethink that with the above incident).

Both my wife and I CCW (but I work for .mil so I can't carry while at work) and we have no kids and don't have friends.
