    Default Moving a gun safe...

Has anyone done it without paying a moving company? I am thinking about picking up this safe from Costco.

    http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...s=2&lang=en-US

Weights 450lbs, and I want to have it in the basement. It is not a walkout basement and there are two flight of stairs (zigzag).

Costco will deliver it to the sidewalk, and I would be responsible for moving it to its final location.

    Any tips or ideas?

at least 2 other people (large) and an appliance dolly. That's what it took getting a like safe UP stairs to my closet. Don't let anyone or anything go in front of the safe while going down the stairs. I'll say a prayer for you.

When I bought my current safe, the dealer delivered it and moved it up a flight of stairs by himself with a battery powered dolly that climbed up the stairs. Call around, you might be able to rent one.

I slid mine down the stairs pretty easily, it's a little bigger than the one you're getting. I did have some people on the bottom half of the safe and we went real slow, didn't want momentum building up. I didn't have the zigzag stairs like you have though, mine was a straight shot. Best of luck !!!

most tool rental places have a dolly that has a motorcycle battery on it, and a set of motorized stair climber feet on them.

The only way to do it. Forget the appliance dolly.

I had to remove the door from mine, and use an appliance dolly and a friend to get it in the house.

I have moved 2 large safes down into my basement. I used a dolly, and beer to get buddies to come help.
