    Default Ranger Plates?

So I have been looking at magpul's website a lot, and I have to ask, what are the purpose of ranger plates? I know, I probably sound like an idiot, so feel free to make fun of me too.

They are designed to give you something to stick your finger through to pull them out of your pouches and to give you a flat surface on your magazine to use as a support when shooting prone.

Don't know why they called them that especially since we (Rangers) don't use them. 550 cord and tape works fine and still allows you to use the retention on your pouches and I've never had a prone shot in combat where I wanted to be that high off the gound...
