    Default Garand Help

In October of 2010, I bought a Service Grade SA Garand from CMP that has languished in my safe for 2 years. Yesterday I finally took it shooting with the Greek ammo from CMP and it failed to fire. I made 3 attempts and it went "click" all three times but never fired. I removed the cartridge for each attempt and then figured I should have the gun looked at. What is my best course of action here?

BP Tactical in the industry partner section.

Have you field stripped and cleaned the rifle? Were there primer strikes on the rounds you chambered? Take those rounds with you to BP Tactical. He isn't very far from Westminster.

"went click." Best bet is a buddy who can put hands and eyes on the rifle.

CMP customer service goes above and beyond, but the Garand forum participants at http://forums.thecmp.org/ will get you going.

Did you do a thorough field strip and cleaning before firing?

I stripped and cleaned the rifle about a month ago using a youtube video but probably not very thoroughly or I put it back together wrong. I inspected the cartridges and cant see any noticable strikes. I'm going to take it to BP Tactical along with the cartridges and see what he can find. Thanks for the help.

You're up in Westminster, have Bert take a looky at it. If there's something wrong, the CMP will nake it right. Might want to call the CMP first to make sure it's OK for a local gunsmith to look it over first. Probably something simple.

Sorry, I didn't notice all the other replies saying the same things.....

I'm sorry Bert, but I did a FFl Transfer a month ago with a guy in Broomfield who gunsmiths and after checking your website his rates were lower and I dropped the rifle off there. Then I came home and started reading your feedback and I'm kicking myself in the ass now. I have over indulged recently buying ammo and stuff and I'm stretching my dollars until I get caught up. I would like to meet you some day and have a similar experience to some of the feedback guys and if I need any help I will go to you. Thanks to all who posted and I will give an update how it turns out.
