    Hey Drew,
I'd suggest doing some reading in the study guides, and talk to the guys at HRO as well. It'll help you understand what is being discussed and give you ideas of how you'd like to participate. If all goes well at the meeting, we'll likely have more meetings in the future, etc. and get you involved.

Baglock1 gave you a rundown of what we talk about. When we say 2m radios, we are talking about radios made to operate on the 2meter radio spectrum. The 2m is the wavelength, and is a guide to the frequency being used. In this case, 2m is the 144-146mhz band. The exact range is a little more than that but it puts you in the ballpark. 6m is the 50mhz range, and so on. If you're a mathnut, frequency is 300/wavelength. Its not deadnuts exact on the frequencies used, but close. One band that hams use, is more often referred to by the frequency than the wavelength, and that is the 75cm/440mhz band. Most just call it 440, and same goes with the 220/1.25m band as well, but thats not a real commonly used band. Part of the reason they use wavelengths instead of the frequencies, has to do with how many different bands are available. Its alot easier to say 6m, 10m, 12m, 15m, 20m, 17m, 30m, 60m, 160m than it is to call them by mhz. Read thru a study book, and it'll make alot more sense.

Go to QRZ.com, take the test over and over again... When you come across a question that you do not understand look it up in the book... Does not take very long even for the average person.

Just waiting on the final word from 10mm. Sounds like a few of us will be bringing some equip in, or have it in their vehicles to demonstrate.

Yep, I can bring a handheld and a mobile setup. I'll see if I can get a mobile setup I loaned to a friend. It's easily mounted/dismounted.

I'm going to try and show up. I know next to nothing, but people can check out the CB radio set-up I have in my truck. It is the most basic of basic.

Sometimes simple and basic is better. But turn on channel 19 near a truck stop, and its an endless amount of insight into childish adults lol

I'm really going to try to make it up there. FYI, I still have a ham rig for sale. More of a premium one than barebones cheapie, but if anyone is interested, I can bring it:
