Singlestack, did it seriously take a week and a half to get your Call Letters? Most of this process is 'electronical' i would hate to be waiting for the License back when this was all a paper process.

I think it partly depends on how fast your VEs send the info in. It can take 4 days or less, or over a week. The waiting can suck, and wondering if you will get a cool callsign, or a jumble of letters.

The anticipation is killing me :-) I went through the ARRL VEC. Very nice group of guys. I think I am going to like this hobby.

Beau - congrats on passing and welcome to the fraternity of RF geeks! Street is right; depends on the the speed at which the VEC gets the paperwork submitted.

Street - while at NDMS yesterday doing ATV, our site coordinator told me that calls were now in the E's" - "KE0", for example. I don't mind my call, but would have preferred fewer letters. Amazing how many "vanity items" go along with vanity calls - hats, monogrammed shirts, bags, license plates, and (yes) even tatoos!

We haven't done anything since the initial meeting. I think the hang up is really determining the nuts and bolts of a COAR-15 comm plan. I consider myself too much of a newbie to know what to propose, but am going through an education process to understand what is available.

Here are a couple of fotos from NDMS yesterday of a Lakota and a Blackhawk dropping off incoming "patients" at Good Samaritan hospital.

We were asked to participate in the NDMS, both district 14, and my wife, but for some reason the hospitals here declined to participate in the event, so we more or less stepped out of it. We have a marathon to do sunday that I'm helping in. Making a trip to the candy store Saturday to pickup an antenna for my handheld, so I can hit the repeater better. We'll have to discuss some thoughts sometime in the near future, as we get some play time in the field. I'm not sure, but I think you can get a vanity callsign with a general. If not, I know you can with extra. Thought about about doing what some do, and having them drop the D in my sign. I like the last three letters in mine, lol.

All those helicopters went right over my house out to the exercise, was also listening to the goings on and people talking about it on the radio too on a couple repeaters.

What got me so excited was listening to the radio as I usually do, and hearing the activation process for the Evergreen fire. It was quite nice to hear all the folks volunteering to mann comm vans and just asking if they could be utilized in some way. Very awesome. This is exactly why I am wanting to learn about this. Situational Awareness. EDIT: Well getting into to this gets my inner Techie out.

I agree on a netmeeting to discuss - we should probably get gnihcraes involved, as well. Good luck at the marathon and no matter what - learn to luv your rubber duck!

I switched out my Rubber Duck for a 14" on my handheld, and the quality of the reception is like night and day.
