    If the registration is good for 5 years so is the smog test. This info also agrees with what our friend was told by DMV & scamissions testers when he had to test prior to plates for his 51 merc

    Antique Plates
    Instead of antique plates, Colorado offers collector plates. To qualify, your car or light truck (less than 16,000 pounds empty weight) must be at least 25 years old. Registration is valid for five years.

    • Enhanced Area - The full counties of Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson, as well as the partial counties of Adams, Arapahoe, Larimer and Weld.
    • Basic Area - El Paso county. The gas vehicle emissions program has ended in this area but the diesel program is still in effect.
    • Effective November 1, 2010, portions of Larimer and Weld counties require testing on gas powered vehicles.
