    Default Weird thing I learned

Anybody get hangovers? Not me. At least not anymore. I literally cured myself of hangovers. I thought I'd share in case this can help any of you.

I used to get terrible hangovers. Sometimes I'd have 2-3 beers and be completely out of commission the next day. Other times I'd have 12 beers and wake up feeling decent, but at minimum would have a headache and would spend the whole day on the couch. I would never drink before dark, because I'd be certain to have a hangover around 8:00pm and it would ruin my night. I was just a huge wimp about hangovers, and nobody else seemed to have the same issues.

About 6 months ago I didn't go to the grocery store on Sunday like usual, and didn't buy any soda (Coke, Pepsi, whatever). Monday I was fine. On Tuesday, I woke up with what felt exactly like a hangover. As the day wore on, and I felt like puking because the headache was so bad. Something was up. Could it be caffeine withdrawal? It seemed to match the symptoms.

I woke up the next day feeling fine, and decided I wouldn't drink caffeine anymore, from that day forward. I drank alcohol heavily that weekend, and woke up the next day feeling 100%, like I hadn't even had a drink the night before. I've never felt like that. It didn't take long to put two and two together, and realize that for the past 15 years, what I thought was a hangover was actually caffeine withdrawal, and that somehow drinking alcohol was just ridding my body of caffeine quickly and causing the withdrawal.

So I stopped drinking caffeine, and I have had ZERO hangovers since. Sometimes I'll still wake up feeling a little gross (like the alcohol isn't out of my system), but no headaches, sensitivity to light, etc. I can drink whatever I want, and as much as I want, and I know I'll feel fine the next day.

If you suffer from bad hangovers, try it and share. I'm interested to hear what this does for anyone else.

Interesting. Unfortunately, I think caffeine is the only thing that keeps me alive. But I rarely drink enough to even get a buzz, much less have a hangover the next day.

IIMHO it's a dehydration issue. You cut out soda which dehydrates you more than it hydrates you, probably more so that alcohol. Now you are more a head of the curve when you throw a few back.

Nope, because I've tried drinking a shit ton of water/gatorade/anything while drinking, with no positive benefits. It's caffeine, I'm positive.

I'm like Carl here, I need caffeine to function... But I rarely drink too... and when I do it's not to get wasted.

I have heard This statement before. My question is if you were in the desert and all you had to drink was Coke do you think you would die? Coffee, the same thing if I was in the desert and all I had was was coffee I think that would keep me alive longer than drinking nothing at all. It seems to be an idea that came from nutritionists who were suggesting we should drink more water which I agree with. But the concept that we're going to die of dehydration even though we're taking on plenty of fluids like Coke or coffee doesn't make any sense to me, let me know if I'm wrong. My answer to hangovers unless I drink a ridiculous amount is to drink a quart of water right before going to sleep.
