I was prescribed Percocet for my recent back/shoulder injury. I took one. It took the pain away but made me feel really weird. Like really disoriented. I didn't like it at all. Motrin worked just as good for the pain. I suppose if the pain was really bad something heavy duty like Percocet would be preferable. But I suspect the 19 tablets I have left will last the rest of my life.

+1 for Naproxen (Aleve). Advil would work better than ibuprofen as it has an anti-inflammatory in it.
If you have, or know someone that has, essential oils, try some Panaway or Peppermint oil. Use ice, not heat. Not more than 20" at a time... Shoulders are the WORST cuz you can't get into a comfortable position no matter what... Been there, got the scars.

you must pay for your government permission slip first, becasue zomg drugs !
I don't believe in chiropractors. I think most of them are hacks. You end up with more probelms and need to go back on a regular basis after you see one. For issues like that I see physical therapists, preferably a sports therapist. They charge about the same and will help get to the root of the problem, usually telling you how to strenthen the muscles that let you get injured.
Trust me when I say I have had a lot of dealings with my shoulder and PT. Get a massage and heat it up. I would stay away from the happy ending massage places if you want real results.

Ice and Aleve (naproxen sodium) 2 naproxens at a time is about the best you can get OTC. Hope you feel better soon! If not you may have to see a doctor, to make sure its not a rotator cuff injury.
No heat for the first few days (72+ hours). This will increase swelling and you want to inhibit swelling initially. Only after swelling and initial pain has tapered off should heat be used to increase circulation.
Just remember they call it dope (vicodin/percocet/oxy) for good reason; because it makes you feel like a dope. I have had several surgeries and couldn't get off the prescribed narcotics fast enough... Rather be in pain than stupid.
I bet medicinal MJ would work too![]()

I busted my shoulder a few years back carrying a roll of carpet. Went to 2 doctors, they wouldn't give me anything. Told me to do double the max dose on the bottle of Aleve. Made me feel like I had acid reflux. The best thing for me, a really hot shower or heat pad.
