So the million dollar question(s)........what can we do, how do we do it with out destroying our own futures.
It's probably more like a two or three million dollar question- my bet is in many of the closer districts if you put enough money behind opposition candidates, you could change the make-up of the senate and house to Republican. It will take much more than that for the governship in 2014. But most of these campaigns are run as very small budget operations. With the funding and grassroots organizing, we could unseat enough dems to win. I think you would need a Republican gov to make sure you could repeal these measures. You most likely would not get a veto proof majority in both houses.
(2) A PERSON WHO SELLS OR TRANSFERS AN ASSAULT WEAPON IS
20 DEEMED TO BE AWARE:
21 (a) THAT ASSAULT WEAPONS ARE SOUGHT AFTER BY AND ARE
22 USEFUL FOR CRIMINALS, MASS KILLERS, AND THOSE WITH CRIMINAL
23 INTENT BUT ARE RARELY NECESSARY FOR LAWFUL PURPOSES; AND
24 (b) OF THE EXTREME LIKELIHOOD THAT AN ASSAULT WEAPON
25 THAT IS SOLD OR TRANSFERRED WILL BE USED IN A CRIME OR WILL RESULT
26 IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH
I don't understand how it can be usumed that we are aware that a rifle is extremely likely to be used in a crime. In 2011 there were just over 350 homicides with all types of rifles, in the same year there was over 700 deaths from bicycle accidents. It seems twice as likely that if I sell a bicycle to someone they are going to be killed. If there are an estimated 300 million guns, for argument lets say, 1/3 hand guns, 1/3 shotguns, 1/3 rifles, that makes 100 milion rifles. Why does 350 rifle related homicides even make the radar let alone cause such a national frenzy.
Are we then deemed to be aware that, when we sell someone our vehicle, that that person is going to drink and drive and kill someone? Should we be held liable for their actions, as well?
We need to watch for when this bill goes to committee, and fight it there. That will be the first step, I believe.
