Exclamation Gun Control Bills before Senate Committee, Monday 4 March

Mods, I ask that this doesn't get moved to the L&P section, since GD gets much more traffic. We NEED people to see this.

This is our last chance to have our voices heard on the first 4 gun bills. I know that there isn't much time before Monday, but I urge everyone to try and get out of work, so that they can attend the hearings. I am going to do this myself, and with luck, have my voice heard. Here is the info I received from Sen. Ted Harvey:

ALL of the gun bills in the Senate will be heard in TWO committees on MONDAY, March 4 at 1:30.

Judiciary Committee (Old Supreme Court Chambers, second floor of the Capitol)
    SB 195--CCW training
    SB 196--Assault Weapons ban
HB 1224--Limiting the size of magazines
SB ?--Prohibition of gun possession while under a restraining order

State Affairs Committee (Senate Committee RM 356, third floor of the Capitol)
HB 1226 Prohibiting Concealed Carry on college campus.
HB 1228 Background fees (Poll Tax)
    HB 1229 Universal Background Checks

Each witness in each committee will be given a number indicating the order in which they will testify (think Deli Counter numbered tickets). Each witness will be given THREE (3) minutes TOTAL to speak on any/all of the bills being heard before the that specific committee. This will hopefully allow all interested citizens the ability to testify before both committees with the knowledge that they will not lose their place in line in either of the two committees.

Please have your comments well prepared and practiced to ensure that they are within the allowed three minute time period.

If you are unable to attend on Monday afternoon please feel free to call or email any of the members of the two committee and let them know your position on the bills.

    Senator Aguilar--303-866-4852 Irene.aguilar.senate@state.co.us
    Senator King--303-866-3077 steve.king.senate@state.co.us
    Senator Lundberg--303-866-4853 kevin@kevinlundberg.com

    State, Veterans and Military Affairs
    Chairman Giron--303-866-4878 angela.giron.senate@state.co.us
    Vice Chairman Jones--303-866-5291 senatormattjones@gmail.com
    Senator Crowder--303-866-4875 larry.crowder.senate@state.co.us
    Senator Harvey--303-866-4881 ted.harvey.senate@state.co.us
    Senator Hudak--303-866-4840 senatorhudak@gmail.com

Personally, I feel that HB 13-1224 is the most important bill to be fought, but we need our voices heard on all of them.

SB 195--CCW training...Only prohibits On-Line training. Nothing to see here.
SB 196--Assault Weapons Liability act...These types of laws are designed only to impair law abiding citizens.

I plan on going after my morning deposition...hope it is short.

If we don't get better organized, the dems aren't going to have a problem walking over us. We've got to get better organized, and make damned sure that our voices are heard.

If I could afford to rent a billboard sign, I'd put something up on it as well.

I was just going to say, 196 is not a ban, it's a ridiculous liability act... Does this pretty much make CO Castle Doctrine null and void?

There is a provision for home defense in the bill. Problem with the bill is that it is completely unconsititutional (Yeah, I know what they think about the constitution). The issue of liability is for the "trier of fact" within the court system. Bills attempting to place liability onto persons by law have in large part failed. Mandatory sentencing, penalties, etc. can be legislated provided the "trier of fact" finds liability. Another bill that really stands no chance and if passed will cost Colorado jobs, businesses and money to fight it. Complete waste of paper and time at this point, but the utter ignorance of the law and the constitution as well as the total lack of leadership by the Dems is disgusting.

I'm just waiting for this global economic collapse to occur like they've been predicting for so long. Will make all of this moot.

And what about this Gov't shutdown everybody's been teasing (sorry... threatening?) us with? I'm getting impatient.

    I will be there.
