i wouldn't worry about the suspension, time off from school. Keeps the threat level down. Let's them all calm down, disarm the situation and the gossip that follows at the school to a degree until they go back.

Agreed, the kid isn't being labeled as a criminal, but the term suspension should be leave of absence, as a suspension is negative on your record. Having a bad school record for saving a life? That's like being arrested for assault for disarming an armed robber.
