What are your opinions on the S&W AR series of rifles? My department just added them to the list of approved rifles for duty use, so I'd like to know what others think. Not that I *need* another one, mind you, but I always *want* more guns.

Keep it lube, it will fire all day.
I new a guy who go one brand new and took it home and cleaned it and went to the range with some Mag-tec and PMC ammo and it kept getting failure to ejects, then tried Hornady and it worked fine. Not like my bushmaster, keep it wet and it will eat ANYTHING.
They were made by CMT/Stag. I have heard rumblings that they were talking about putting the AR manufacture in-house, but haven't heard if that actually happened.
Whatever the configuration, it's an M4 barrel profile.
...unless you're looking at their varmint configuration.

I wish technology solved people issues. It seems to just reveal them.

As good as you get for mid level.
I love mine, I got the X model. I've never had a problem with it at all.

There was a rep at the CLEFIA conference in June. The ones they had were very nice. They are showing up on more and more department approved lists. I think that's because S&W has an aggressive sales department and a they are getting a chance to pitch the gun whne they selll handguns to departments. I'm sure departments that buy S&W pistols get a discount on the rifles.
They are no longer made by CMT/Stag. At least that's what the S&W guy told us. Originally they were but now they are not. Some components may still come from CMT but most are now made for S&W and assembled in house.
The rail systems and iron sights are Troy, marked S&W. I have seen one photo of a rail on cock-eyed, but that's no big deal to fix.
Overall the quality has improved since the first batch. I am told the customer service is bettern then it was, at least for LEO's. I do not own one, but I wouldn't mind doing so. I do think, as with anything, that I'd wring it out really well before throwing it in the car for work.
So I'm pretty sure you're good to go with one.
