Default I can't connect my computer to the Internet--- AKA computer moron

So my laptop will no longer connect to the Internet via Wifi. Two other laptops and a desktop and my iPad can connect but not my main laptop. What can I check to see where the break down is. It's an HP running Windows 8(which is a piece of shit OS) and google chrome. Google chrome on all computers and this is the only one I am having this issue with. And it started suddenly a couple of days ago.

It says I'm connected and I verified the code buts that's about as far as my skills go...

Run chkdsk. I believe Win 8 still does that. Open "my computer", right click on C drive, go down to properties, then tools tab, the first one is check disc for errors etc. You can't run it
without a restart, so check the top of two boxes when it ask you, then say OK and then go down and restart it. Takes only a few minutes and often re hooks up stuff like lost Wifi
etc. I run it about once a week like a habit. If you do all the Win upgrades esp I do it. They always seem to cause more problems than they solve. Also right click on My Computer, go down to properties, click device manager, then see if yellow exclamation mark by Network. Either way, double click it and see if it enabled etc. You can do that before chkdsk.

^^^ This. Try a restart. If not, check the USB adapter for power. You may have to reinstall the software for the adapter.

Does your laptop have one of those little sliding "on/off" buttons for wifi on the front or side? If so, check and make sure it hasn;t been bumped to "off."

The internal server architecture is attempting to ping the wireless transponder and is stuck in a binary feedback loop. This is often caused by the presence of too much blued metal in the same house as the computer. As I'm a neighbourly sort, I'll happily drop by and collect the offending material for disposal.

    Sounded good to me... ;-)

Do you have a limit set on the number of wireless connections to your router?
