Light vs Midweight Barrels

What do you guys think about selecting a barrel weight? I've decided on a middy gas system but I can't decide on the barrel. Should I go with a lightweight one, or a M4/Govt/Mid barrel? I figure a lightweight one will be easier for me to manuever, but a medium weight one will be more steady to shoot. Thoughts?

I have one of each but only because it was "take what I can get" time. I find that the weight difference is pretty negligable. Theoretically the straight medium barrel should be more structurally sound since there aren't as many unnecessary cuts (so I'm told).

In short, meh. Either one. I'm curious what other responses will come up, though.

Depends what you want the gun for. If its an all purpose carbine, I would go with the M4 or Govt. profile. My first AR had a medium contour barrel and I regretted getting it due to weight. Keep in mind that balance is the key to a heavier gun

For no reason other than personal preference, I prefer a "government" profile in a 16" mid gas barrel.

Really depends on application, I have had 14.5" pencil, 16" pencil, 16"M4, and 16" bull barrels.
For a light carbine I prefer pencil barrels over the M4.
For a standard everyday carbine, the M4 profile works perfect
My current "go to" rifle has an 18" heavy profile using a rifle gas system and its a great shooter. Its a tick on the heavy side but thats OK.

My 10.5" .300 Blackout is much heavier than my 14.5" lightweight carbine. I'm using a Spike's pencil barrel. The gun feels like a toy, but it's nice. It's a little heavier now that I've changed out some components and added some things, but it's still noticeably very lightweight. I prefer it over a standard profile barrel.
