Default Shooting wildlife on your property?

What does CO and Colorado Springs law say about shooting wildlife on your property if it is threatening the life of a pet? Have had a mountain lion in my neighborhood and while careful with out pets they have to go to the bathroom eventually.

I don't believe you can simply shoot a cougar, or say a bear, simply because it's on your property. It has to be posing a threat to your life. If something is merely meandering through your yard, or picking through your trash, you're not allowed to shoot it. Don't quote me on this, but it is how I've come to understand it so far.

Shoot 1st, then hide the body. Your talking about wildlife right.
I saw a squirrel eat a small child once.

The best advice I got - this from a Game & Fish warden in Wyoming - is "shoot, shovel, shut up"

Oddly enough I ran across something about this in the regs a while back and you won't believe it. You can shoot wildlife causing damage to real property like your car but your pets don't count. Sounds real dumb to me.
