I saw this come up when they were having the hearings on the pay for background checks. They don't run back ground checks for public officials because it is unconstitutional. Yes they have a right to serve and don't have to prove they are not criminals.

ALL public officials should be required to pass a background check AND be subject to random drug tests . . . otherwise, what is the point of background checks and drug tests? Everyone from Wal*Mart to RTD is subject to mandatory testing, so why should those elected officials empowered and entrusted to change the law of the land be treated any different? After all, they are allegedly "public servants" who work for the people, right?

How the hell can they be considered "public servants" if they don't take into consideration what the public WANTS them to do? They're all so goddamn high and mighty that they do whatever THEY THINK the public wants and needs. I don't recall seeing any of these assholes ASKING the public if we wanted them to enact new gun laws to "protect" us. But I do recall a helluva lot of us hollering about it and demanding that they NOT enact new gun laws!

Isn't that how this is supposed to work? Aren't THEY supposed to represent US, by finding out what we want them to do for us and then taking care of it by representing us? Since when did it change to where THEY think up things and decide what's good for the rest of us? I know it's been like this for a long time, but that shit needs to stop. They're supposed to be working FOR us, and it needs to go back to that.
