Not sure if this has been asked and answered, but...

How many CCW holders have committed a crime using thier weapon? There seems to be a lot of talk lately about how important it is that the Sheriffs and CCW instructors as a second set of eyes on applicants to "weed out" someone who might have mental issues etc. Isnt that a little like profiling? or discrimination?

Just something about it seems off.

You are on the right track! It will eventually turn into a form of profiling, and then, for the sake of the children and to appease those who "got profiled", they will then just ban them all so it's a non-issue... And no, this isn't a tin-foil hat conspiracy. Just go read a history book...

It has since the very beginning of all of this crap, and not much has changed except the lines are becoming more clearly defined.

    Let's make the Children Safer,
There was a person who was elected, 1932, his citizenship was in question. Everyone Loved him & he would Parade Children around him on stage.
First we must Register our Firearms to Save the Children.
    Next, the Jews register first.
    Next, the Germans,
Those who don't register will be fined,
Next, Germans will be put in Prison, Jews Concentration Camps.
    NEXT, JEWS WILL BE SHOT.
Next, total Gun confiscation, WE WILL HAVE A SAFER GERMANY & A SAFER WORLD. 1937?
It took Adolf from 1932-1937-38 to do what the Liberals are doing now.
    YEP,
    Thanks For Cheering me up.

I don't have the numbers in front of me (might be on GunFacts), but a study done a few years ago in Texas concluded that people licensed to carry concealed handguns are MORE LAW ABIDING than THE POLICE and that a significantly higher number of police officers are charged with crimes than CCWers.

Another study shows that police officers are something like 5 times more likely to "shoot the wrong person" than a citizen carrying a concealed weapon (to be fair this is often because the police arrive on the scene after action has started whereas the citizen is there from the very beginning).

Example; my neighbors ex husband has the wrong mindset in my opinion. So I refuse to train him until IMO I am comfortable to teach him. Is that profiling him? So let's say someone comes to me; I know he is a hot head, likes to fight, etc. IMO he is a little crazy. Should i train him or refrain?

I ran these numbers a few months ago based on an anti gun orginization. I'm going to do this pretty fast but here it is:

    http://www.vpc.org/ccwkillers.htm

Per the website there were 499 CCW murders over 5.7 years.
That is about 90 deaths a year.
With a population of 300 million, your yearly chances of being killed by a CCW holder: 0.0000003

According to a study by Newsweek magazine, only 2% of civilian shootings involve an innocent person being shot (not killed). The error rate for police is 11%. What this means is that you are more than 5 times more likely to be accidentally shot by a policeman than by an armed citizen. But, when you consider that citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as do police every year, it means that, per capita, you are more than 11 times more likely to be accidentally shot by a policeman than by an armed citizen. That is as low as I can get that number. This is not meant to be an indictment of the police. In fact, because police often live on the edge, they naturally tend to shoot first and ask questions later. Although they are trained to repress this instinct, it does not always work, as evidenced by the number of innocent people killed by police. Also, since they are generally better marksmen, they tend to kill, rather than wound or totally miss their target.
The Kleck study shows that police shoot and kill around 600 criminals each year. Yet the University of Chicago study shows that police killed 330 innocent individuals in 1993. That means that for every two criminals killed by police, one innocent citizen is killed by police. Although I have the greatest respect for the police and how they must respond under pressure, I think that I would much rather trust an armed populace.
