I would guess that if this passes, many gun owners, no matter their politics, will leave the state by then, which plays into the agenda; fewer people who oppose you, more who support you.
People will think "OK maybe a 10 rd mag isn't so bad", and they get used to it..sucks some of the will out of the fight. Other problems replace gun issues, so laws remain in place for another decade
or so, or till the next shooting. Then another wave of legislation will magically and quickly appear "We have to do more to protect the children!"
Lather, rinse, repeat
