    Default Need help with FFL

Can anybody tell me the process I need to go through to get my FFL ? I am thinking of finally opening a gunsmith/parts buisness and need to get a FFL in order to work on peoples guns. Searching the net is only turning up horror stories and is rather discourageing. I live east of the springs and plan on just operating from home, which I know several people do, but I found one site that says you can not work out of your home/garage.

Any experienced help will be appreciated !!

    Thanks,
    Mike

I live rural on 35 acres, dont plan on having a "gun store" All my machinery is set up here in my shop to gunsmith. Any sells I d would likely be gunshows (if there are any after the last couple tanners) and to dealers with store fronts, maybe gunbroker, but I dont like shipping guns. Does this info make ane differance ?

    Call your local ATF.

Gunsmiths have an easier time as far as the store front/store hours/zoning goes, with getting the FFL.

The BATFE can get you all the info you will need.

Find someone who is a local merchant that has some very limited space(maybe a small room in the back away from thier stuff) Rent this space, do all transactions out of the building, recive mail ect. and do the smithing at home. That will cost you less trouble in the long run. Use it as appointment only...
You can't do just the gunshows and internet and home. You have to have a location like a storefront to be legal. (remember the gunshow loophole hoopla years ago? This is part of it)
Remember, always do EVERY transaction(exchange or sale of FFL weapons) at the store. If you don't it can cost you your licence and its a felony.
The upside, the store owner will be there to accept your shipments for you and your mail...that will leave you free from distractions to do your work. Good luck!

I would be careful about allowing the federal government onto my property for inspection any time they wish without a warrant or appointment. It's why I didn't pursue it. Again, better off having some place other than home to do it.
