I grew up the farm in KS. and can't imagine living in a city. We're on septc and well water. Driveway is long enough that I'm thankful for my neighbor and his skidsteer for snow plowing. I can shoot archery in my back yard, but more than about one gun shot will get someones attention. Only got 1 mile of gravel before it turns to oil, which is nice. Used to be 4 miles of the worst, roughest, least maintained road in Colo., now it's only 1 mile of the worst, roughest, least maintained road. Only about 15 minute drive into town. Plenty of snow drifts, again very thankful for the neighbor and his skidsteer.
The wife and I are looking at moving even further "out"..

Here is a check list to see where you fall.
    - Do you open a gate or cross a cattle guard to get onto your property? No just a couple miles of dirt road
    - Is your driveway measures in 10's or 100's or 1000's of yards... Miles? My driveway splits in three directions to a couple of different buildings; it has to be plowed. The damn county road goes through my property so it is pretty close to my house.
    - Are you on city water/sewer? No, septic
    - Does your power go out every time there is any type of storm? Depends on if a tree goes down
    - Do snow drifts caused by wind exceed your car/house height? Our cars can be buried without drifts, 4ft storms are common.
    - If you talk or yell can your neighbor hear you.... without a phone? Probably not
    - If you shoot in your yard does anyone call the local law enforcement? No, but it sure pisses of the dogs in the area.
    - Do you have to drive more than 15 miles/minutes to go get gas/food/groceries? About 15-20 minutes

Lastly, Do you leave your keys in your vehicles and your house is always unlocked? No and No

    I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more category: Does the drive scare the hell out of visitors?

I keep getting yelled at by every city person that visits me. Why is there no guard rail on the road up to your house? My answer, why do you need a guard rail; just stay away from the ledge.

    - Do you open a gate or cross a cattle guard to get onto your property? two gates
    - Is your driveway measures in 10's or 100's or 1000's of yards... Miles? 1/4 mile after 2 miles of dirt road
    - Are you on city water/sewer? septic and well
    - Does your power go out every time there is any type of storm? yes
    - Do snow drifts caused by wind exceed your car/house height? it used to when we had a manufactured house, so we bought a taller house.
    - If you talk or yell can your neighbor hear you.... without a phone? no we couldnt talk to our neighbors without a phone
    - If you shoot in your yard does anyone call the local law enforcement? i allways shoot in my "yard" I have a range. Whats Law Enforcement?
    - Do you have to drive more than 15 miles/minutes to go get gas/food/groceries? Grocery store is about 26 miles away. 18.5 miles to get gas.

Lastly, Do you leave your keys in your vehicles and your house is always unlocked? no, and I have a locked gate. I dont trust anyone. I even take the key out of my tractor.

I know that personally what bothers me most is when I have to go to town and I remember to lock my truck, but forget to actually take my keys out of the ignition!
And we hate living this close in. We will move when we can to a much bigger place(land size), hopefully much further out.

I would love to finally get out of the suburbs and into the mountains with lots of acreage...basically a place where I can step out back and plink away in my own backyard (watching Hunter S. Thompson documentaries got me excited on that fantasy). Just need to figure out how to maintain a suitable income while far out from typical centers of employment.

Almost a mimeograph of Bailey Guns for us; the driveway's short but the road here can be death to a Prius!
