I think I fall in between...I'm right on the edge of town; I don't cross a cattle guard or gate but I go over my bridge for the irrigation canal; we're on city water but have a septic system; my driveway is over 100 yards long; the only way I can yell loud enough for the only neighbor I have to hear me is if I walk up to the end of the driveway; I can walk out my sliding glass door and shoot skeet over my alfalfa field and nobody cares (unless the wife is watching TV!); but I can drive 1.5 minutes and be at the gas station, the hardware store (been in the same place and owned by the same folks since the 30's) the little grocery store, the bowling alley, the feed store, the florist, the little old pharmacy that still has a no-kidding real soda fountain, the county courthouse, the post office, or town hall. Another couple of minutes I can make it to the auto parts store, the steel yard, or the car wash. We only have 4 restaurants, if you include DariLand. Of course, town is around 900 people, and that's about half the population of the whole county.
Lots of folks around here don't lock their doors, never mind their cars. The only crime is from bored teenagers, and they always figure out who did it.
I love it.
