That is because private party transactions are still legal here. In Illinois both parties need a FOID card or it is a felony. In NY both parties need a NYS Pistol Permit to transfer a handgun and they have an AWB and hi-cap mag ban. After July 1st, Colorado will require BGC for private party transactions and hi-cap mags will be banned.

BEWARE OF THE COOK COUNTY SHERIFF

I had a rifle on armslist that I was looking to dump, nothing important. When I received a email from a buyer telling me they wanted to purchase the rifle. We exchanged phone numbers. I received a text last friday asking me to meet the buyer. I was working, but wasn't busy.

They wanted to meet in Oak Park, I said NO WAY.

They recommended a different spot. I agreed, the Portillos on Roosevelt and DesPlanes. There is a gun range a couple of blocks from there that I thought would be a better place but, it was Friday and I was more afraid of rush hour then I was of the location.

Long story short, it smelled and looked wrong. the car was a pick up with black windows. I'm thinking gangbanger. When I pull up two guys get out of the car, but they are both older white guys. They didn't match the car. They look over the rifle, but when it comes time to sign the paper work, the guy doesn't have a FOID card. He tells me he has a domestic arrest.

I tell him I can't sell him the rifle, he offers more money, I reject his offer. He keeps try. I keep saying NO.

Next thing I know, there are 50 cops surrounding me, they are searching my car, and handcuffing me and toss me in the back of a car.

Within 15 minutes I'm in the Maywood sheriff station. They are asking where I live, how many guns do I own, how many I've sold. The experience was rough and distressing. I didn't want to answer any questions.
All I can think is that I'm in handcuffs for some reason, did I break a law I wasn't aware of. If I answer a question wrong I end up in a jump suit.

Turns out, I didn't break any laws. They want me to give them information that I didn't have. I almost had a heart attack. I walked out an hour later with my rifle.

What the bloody hell was that. Is this how we threat citizens when political fortunes are on the line. It took me a week before I had the nerve to post on this site. I use be mad at people who refused to sell to cook county residents. Now I understand, its not worth it.

How native was I, be-careful. FTF is hard enough without having to worry about bogus stings.
I call Bullshit. The poster is a looser. Why the fuck do you not Request an ATTORNEY. ??? Fail on his part for allowing said "interrogation" to happen w/out legal counsel.

Yes, had a guy tell me he couldn't pass a background check. End of transaction. But none of the cops like in the org post. I do think he was a cop. Its better to be "paranoid" than be a dumb ass.

Just curious, because I have not sold an item because I did not feel like the potential buyer was on the up and up.

On the other side of this, I once bought a gun through a guy I worked with from a cop. The guy I worked with brought in a list of crap this cop was selling off for whatever reason. On it was a Ruger MKII bull barrel for I think $200 (this was 1998-ish) and I gave my coworker the cash and the next day he brought me a shiny Ruger. Great gun. Loved it. Right up until I got pulled over in Reno and put into jail because it was stolen. Stayed in jail for 6 hours. Had to pawn my Dan Wesson .357 for bail. The only reason there was no case pursued against me was because it was missing (stolen) from the evidence locker at the Nashville Airport, and I had the handwritten receipt along with the list of other items for sale in my records. No way I could have gotten it. I gave up the guy that I worked with- his day job was a property room tech, and the cop who sold me the gun. Honestly I should have known better, an property room tech with a list of crap for sale? Shoulda been a red flag for days.
Nowadays if anything smells even remotely funny to hell with it. I also tend to have folks meet me at my shop, where the security cameras are hidden and rolling 24/7 to an off-site hard drive. If I go to meet someone I dont know or have not done business with or no one knows, then I am armed to the teeth and tend to use public places with security cameras rolling- bass pro and Sportsmans are my favorites! Yeah, I am a tick paranoid...

That's kinda like buying an Aimpoint, ACOG, Laser, etc. from a GI and thinking it's legit. Um, no. Yes, there are surplus sales but you can betcher ass that pretty much anything you buy around here from a GI may come with a CID visit.

I've never heard of a CID visit locally either. I understand they are in charge of investigating these matters but I've never heard of buyer "home visits". Buying 10 NIB ACOGs- yes, buy 10 issued USGI mags- no.

Had a guy on Armslist allegedly from Alamosa trying to purchase my 1911 through a family member up here. Could have been a guy ignorant of the law, or could have been something more.....

Much ado about nothing. In the absence of federal legislation, the truckstops in Cheyenne, Raton and Kansas will become "Gunshows" with no laws being broken.

That is partially correct. However, if the firearm (long gun) is purchased in a State other than our home State of Colorado, It'd have to go through a FFL dealer. And that out of State FFL dealer will sell the firearm (long gun only) to the Colorado citizen providing the buyer is not prohibited from buying that particular firearm. After the new law is in action, we will not be legally able to buy the "assault firearm" in another State and bring it back into this great, gun loving State of Colorado.
