Honestly, my gut tells me gun owners are a bit on the paranoid side (right or wrong) and most are willing to perpetuate an unsubstaniated story of BATFE setting up stings and watching gun-related forums (work related, not as a member) look to nab good, honest people. I don't see or hear it but that's why I was asking for correction if I am wrong.

I would confirm the legality of that before pursuing that option. It may be a legit loophole in the legislation that was not closed, or you could be breaking the law and putting yourself at risk. It may not be a valid law, or be legitimate, but until that is proven out and has its day in court you don't want to be the example.

Thousands of felonies not prosecuted, hundreds of homicides without any leads, gang bang problems, inner city violence, etc. in Chicago and they're going after private gun sales that they know will be made up predominately of law abiding citizens. Talking about possible misdemeanor charges worst case scenario?? </div>

If this story is true then it is simply propaganda. Bloomberg's thugs want so badly to make an example of legally armed citizens and then spew the story forth via mainstream media. I personally wouldn't be surprised if those actions started out here post July since we're on the front line of this assault.</div>

I can speak to separate incidents of BATFE spying - one on gun boards, one at the Tanner gun show and several at the Colorado MG shoots Bob McBride used to put on. I won't go into detail to protect my own identity, but believe it. You also should be aware that a common tactic is to entrap someone in a technical violation of the law and then flip them to be a CI to stay out of jail. The Ruby Ridge tragedy started exactly in this manner. Agents that remember their oath, that object to unlawful entrapment, perjury on wiretap warrants, etc., get run out of the agency. Go take a browse on CleanUpATF.org to see how corrupted this agency has become. Research the saga of Vincent Cefalu, one of the last old school agents that had a sense of respect for the Constitution he swore to uphold.
My brother is a career law enforcement official that has worked with several federal agencies up to and including the SS-PPD. He has told me many times that the BATFE is widely viewed as the bottom rung of federal law enforcement.
Before the mandatory background check law such stings on Armslist would be a huge waste of time for little gain (and very few arrests). So while it's possible there are some sting-like things going on now (maybe some of those sawed off shotguns we've seen on Armslist were actually ATF stings) I really doubt it.
With the new mandatory bgc law there will be an impetus (especially at first) to smack a few folk down hard to make an example of them.
And kidicarus is right ... gun owners tend to be a little paranoid about these things (but to quote Kurt Cobain; "...just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you...")
Modern liberalism is based on the idea that reality is obligated to conform to one's beliefs because; "I have the right to believe whatever I want".
