Before the mandatory background check law such stings on Armslist would be a huge waste of time for little gain (and very few arrests). So while it's possible there are some sting-like things going on now (maybe some of those sawed off shotguns we've seen on Armslist were actually ATF stings) I really doubt it.

With the new mandatory bgc law there will be an impetus (especially at first) to smack a few folk down hard to make an example of them.

And kidicarus is right ... gun owners tend to be a little paranoid about these things (but to quote Kurt Cobain; "...just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you...")

"guy doesn't have a FOID card. He tells me he has a domestic arrest."

That should have been fishy right off the bat.

Thousands of felonies not prosecuted, hundreds of homicides without any leads, gang bang problems, inner city violence, etc. in Chicago and they&#39;re going after private gun sales that they know will be made up predominately of law abiding citizens. Talking about possible misdemeanor charges worst case scenario??&nbsp;</div>

If this story is true then it is simply propaganda. Bloomberg&#39;s thugs want so badly to make an example of legally armed citizens and then spew the story forth via mainstream media. I personally wouldn&#39;t be surprised if those actions started out here post July since we&#39;re on the front line of this assault.</div>

I would confirm the legality of that before pursuing that option. It may be a legit loophole in the legislation that was not closed, or you could be breaking the law and putting yourself at risk. It may not be a valid law, or be legitimate, but until that is proven out and has its day in court you don't want to be the example.

That's what I thought. Felons don't usually tell cops that they have a firearm on them, and most drunk drivers deny consuming the actual amount of alcohol.

Has anyone here ever had someone literally tell them

"Hey man, look I cant pass a background check because (insert BS story here), is that cool?"

Just curious, because I have not sold an item because I did not feel like the potential buyer was on the up and up.

On the other side of this, I once bought a gun through a guy I worked with from a cop. The guy I worked with brought in a list of crap this cop was selling off for whatever reason. On it was a Ruger MKII bull barrel for I think $200 (this was 1998-ish) and I gave my coworker the cash and the next day he brought me a shiny Ruger. Great gun. Loved it. Right up until I got pulled over in Reno and put into jail because it was stolen. Stayed in jail for 6 hours. Had to pawn my Dan Wesson .357 for bail. The only reason there was no case pursued against me was because it was missing (stolen) from the evidence locker at the Nashville Airport, and I had the handwritten receipt along with the list of other items for sale in my records. No way I could have gotten it. I gave up the guy that I worked with- his day job was a property room tech, and the cop who sold me the gun. Honestly I should have known better, an property room tech with a list of crap for sale? Shoulda been a red flag for days.
Nowadays if anything smells even remotely funny to hell with it. I also tend to have folks meet me at my shop, where the security cameras are hidden and rolling 24/7 to an off-site hard drive. If I go to meet someone I dont know or have not done business with or no one knows, then I am armed to the teeth and tend to use public places with security cameras rolling- bass pro and Sportsmans are my favorites! Yeah, I am a tick paranoid...
