It bothers me as this is how the media portrays gun owners, KILL, INNOCENT, Buzz words used to portray someone in a negative light. I am sure the OP did not have that intent.

I don't think they intended to portray it that way. That site is run and all articles are written by former SOF guys and they have plenty of articles arguing for our 2nd Amendment rights. Probably just poor word choice because that particular author was a Ranger and after reading some of his other articles and comments he's definitely on our side.

    I disagree.
They DID kill him. Now if they said *murdered*, that would imply what you say.

Your *stopped an armed threat* does exactly what I have seen you rail against others for; it minces words and is just PC bs. Tell these f@#$s what is going to happen when you pull this crap, we're going to KILL you.

(any offense was unintended, and my proactive apology is implied)

Poor dog. I think its really wrong that they sacrificed the dog. I know its not a human, but they could have done it different. Esp since there were no hostages. Shame on who ever ordered the dog in there.

You need to study up on LE tactics and understand
    1) It's a dog, not a human being, still a loss but a DOG
    2) Your armchair QB'ing of the situation and condemnation of them for using the dog leans a tad to the left, just a tad.
perhaps i should take you prairie dog shooting. Those cute little tails a wagging, sweet chirps and barking, flea ridden disease carrying vermin. BANG 1 down 3 to go.

I just hate seeing a police dog killed. I tend to think of them as the same thing as a fellow soldier. Sure commanders sacrifice soldiers too. But we all hope they make that judgement as a last resort.

You mean it wasn't a cop that shot the dog this time?

There are many trainers and schools that teach having the back up sights up all the time . Vickers did at his class .

Also going to suspect this was a local FBI SWAT team , find it hard to believe they would spool up HRT for one lone nutbag .

From link in the first thread...

Seven men and one dog, who were all present in Alabama last month during the hostage rescue of a five-year-old kindergartner, loaded onto three helicopters in Quantico, Virginia and flew North to Herkimer.
