Default Larimer County "Galena Fire" Soldier Canyon 200 acre fire

With warmer temps for the next week plus and lack of moisture this does not look good!

BELLVUE, Colo. — A rapidly-spreading wildfire was “imminently threatening” structures in a national park just west of Fort Collins on Friday, according to emergency scanner traffic.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s office confirmed fire crews were headed to the scene of the blaze in Lory National Park as of 12:15 p.m., and that heavy smoke was visible from the Fort Collins area.

More specifically, it appeared that the fire was burning on the northwest side of Horsetooth Reservoir, and had ballooned to about 45 acres as of 12:40 p.m.

It appeared at least one structure was affected as of 12:40 p.m., as well, according to the sheriff’s office, but to what degree was not immediately known.

The Poudre Fire Authority said some evacuations were issued in the area, but mostly due to the fact that the road leading to the fire is a narrow one to access, and emergency crews did not want their equipment to affect residents.

One resident in the area was refusing to evacuate, the sheriff’s office said.
