Default Shooting Ear Muffs to a two way radio how do I pull it off?

Ok so I want to hook up a set of Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic ear muffs to my Motorola two way radios. The radios have an input jack for a microphone, the radio has a vox feature that goes with the microphone and the headphones have an input jack for audio. This seems like it should be an easy thing to do but after an hour of searching I can not figure it out. So I need a boom microphone of some sort that I can attach to the headphones or a shirt or ? and it needs to be able to use the headphones as the audio and send the mic to the radio. Any Ideas?

Duct tape. Seriously though, I think all you would need is an auxiliary cable.

Try one of these. It doesn't utilize the aux in on the ear muffs, but the earpiece should fit just fine underneath.

ETA: I don't think VOX will work, just PTT.

VOX always seems to suck .... use PTT.

Ask the guys at Peltor. They've been making them for a while:

Pretty sweet, but the ones I would want are $800. Yikes.

Its a 2.5mm jack on the radio, not 3.5, and it has contacts for mic and mono speaker.

Here is what you need to connect. You would have to use the mic on the radio though, it would only get audio into your muffs:

Then you would need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable like pictured above to work with this adapter.

So how far away are you trying to communicate?

If you're just wanting to talk to your buddy at the next bench over, just get a set of regular Peltor type noise canceling headphones (or just stick with your Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic ear muffs). They amplify quiet sounds (like speech) and cut out the BANG to protect your hearing.

I've been at the range with a friend with both of us wearing peltors and we're talking to each other in almost a low whisper even though we're 30ft or so apart.
