    Default LR 308/AR10 vs FAL

As I just wandered into some LR 308/DPMS (FA) compatible parts, I'm giving some thoughts into building a "battle rifle" LR 308 akin to my FAL.

Yes, FAL is battle tested, and an ultra reliable rifle. However; IMO, the accuracy leaves something to be desired.

I guess what I'm asking; has anyone trashed/really used the AR10/LR308 platform to give a reliable opinion on it's reliability other than the posts I see from the fanboys? I really don't wish to sink $1K+ into a rifle that a soldier in the sandbox wouldn't carry.

Please with hold all comments about M1A or HK 91 platforms; I've had all of them, and I have my own reasons for keeping a FAL (ergonomics, reliability, and ease of cleaning), so leave those out of the equation. AR10 is the question...

Maddog: You may have moved beyond your question, but I've owned a couple of DPMS based LR-308 rifles. They like any AR-15 have to be kept clean and lubed with quality magazines. I haven't buried mine in sand, but have exposed it to rain, dirt, snow and dragging it through the weeds and it has run reliably. Wasn't perfect but most of the failures were related to magazine feeding issues. Both ran reliably with over 400 rounds in between cleanings.

Not sure I'd want to hump this rifle all day. At nearly 11 lbs loaded, plus a combat load of ammo, it would make my M4 look very appealing.

I've had my LR308 for almost 3 yrs. now. Had it in all weather conditions like Marine24,don't recall ever having a failure with 10 different kinds of ammo. Dropped it several times, killed elk with it and ring steel at a mile with it. My brother thought twice before ordering his $3K LarueOBR after he saw the LR308 was a consistent 1/2moa gun with match ammo for a third of the price! I would buy another without hesitation.
