I sent the link to PETA on their website and told them there needs to be protests and calls for criminal charges for stupid, ignorant people to have a dog they are unable to control near an area where innocent sea mammals that are protected by federal law would be put in danger.

Giffords' husband Mark Kelly pulls attacking dog off sea lion

Note: it doesn't say "their dog"

Amateur video shows former astronaut Mark Kelly, the husband of ex-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, yanking away a dog that clamped down on a baby sea lion at a California beach.
Laguna Beach police tell the Los Angeles Times that the attack happened near an exclusive resort Saturday.
In the video obtained by the Times and KABC-TV, Kelly's screaming daughter tries to pull her dog from the sea lion as two other women help.
Kelly finally steps in and wrests the animal free. It later died.
A spokeswoman for Kelly's political committee says the family crated the dog and then talked to officers. Police say the dog broke from its leash, and no laws were broken.
Kelly and Giffords recently started a gun control advocacy group. The former Arizona congresswoman was shot in 2011.

umm: failure to control your pet (aka a dangerous animal) resulting in the death of a wild animal (ok..ok...I know, my Golden retriever chases squirrels all day long and I don't know animal laws in CA)

Hopefully they will scurry back to their little corner and not poke their heads out for awhile but if they do, I hope 2A rights protesters make some graphic signs with dead sea lions on them.

I'm no expert in Cali laws but apparently you need to keep your dog 500 feet away from "protected species" on Cali beaches. The sea lion is protected.
