I heard yesterday that this purchase is a purchase contract and not actual possession of the ammo. Some speculation believes that it's a way of driving the ammo prices up and availability low.

That has been my theory all along. Now it's nice to hear someone with industry knowledge confirm.

Too bad ammo companies 1) didn't figure this out sooner and 2) grow some stones like Magpul, Barrett, Serbu and others and refuse to fulfill government orders.

As I have said all along, "they" may let us "keep" our firearms but they will probably make a serious attempt to just dry up ammo or at least tax the hell out of it. We'll see what happens.

I could see them nationalizing an ammunition manufacturer.

The problem with this is ammunition manufacturers are federally licensed. You won't provide us ammo, we shut you down.

I read somewhere that the DHS has made contracts for enough ammo to sustain the Iraq war at its height for 24 years! Apparently at the height of the Iraq war we were using about 5 million rounds a month.

I remember when this story started coming 6 months ago or longer from Alex Jones and everybody first dismissed it saying it wasn't true and saying 2 billion rounds of ammo is not a lot.
