Here are a couple of ideas:
Never buy from parties unknown.
Never buy from out of state individuals.
Never buy overpriced items.

In simple terms, never buy off of Armslist.


The second you tell PayPal it is anything firearm related you are screwed. PP will close your account and you will have no recourse.

I had a PayPal account completely shut down and my money held for 6 months because I sold a few SKS accessories through another forum. This was 7 years ago or so and I can't imagine that they've become more tolerant of it during that time.

Their acceptable use policy simply says "some firearms accessories". Nice and vague.

I don't think the "parts" issue will be the problem with PayPal. The fact you sent money as a gift for merchandise to avoid fees for you and/or the seller might be a problem.

We had a hard time getting a merchant account so we use PayPal for our concealed carry classes. They know about it and are fine with it. As long as it's not guns or scary "hi-cap" mags I think you're OK.

i think they have become more lenient, as of late. i was looking for some parts in the last couple months and the wording about what they allow suprised me. ebay and paypal are one. how could they not allow payments on ebay with their own payment company paypal?

Did they say they will mail them to you? Maybe contact US Postal Inspector about mail fraud? I am betting $500 is considered small change, but if they have done this to hundreds of folks, LE might act and arrest them. It is worth a shot...

Why would you send money to someone else that the person you where purchasing from?

If the paypal was charged to a credit card, call the CC company and start a dispute of charges.

if you would have done a standard paypal transaction you would be golden but since you did a gift you are screwed as far as paypal goes. You might have to take him to small claims court. Paypal gift offers no buyer protection
