I think one of the problems is when people who are experienced and educated on these issues post their comments they get flamed if that answer doesn't coincide with the topics political climate. Speaking for myself I am a 22 yr. LE veteran and retired as Chief of Police. Through the years I've had to work with the Fed.s on numerous occasions and the majority have very little knowledge, or desire, on the enforcement of State and local laws. My considered opinion is this is unnecessary legislation. There are not enough circumstances to warrant legislation like this. I think that is why many folks here are skeptical as to the reasons for it. Add to that the timing of it and the fact that we just had unnecessary restrictions put on honest citizens, ie; mag. Capacity bans, background checks etc... And one can see why conspiracy theories abound.

Tinfoil aside, I don't think that it is completely irrational to initially respond to ANY legislation with scrutiny as we have been/are being inundated with stupid legislation at both the state and national level.

I have not read through this entire thread, but at this point I'm still concerned about the ramifications of the 72 hour mental health hold.
